Beginning My Thank You Jesus Tour
Topic: Thank You Jesus Tour

Flew to Frankfurt from Houston.  Got bored in the airport with the 6 hour layover and decided to tour Frankfurt.  Fr. Michael (my newly ordained buddy from Houston) and  I set out on an adventure trying to figure out the subway system and then the roads.  Got to see the Cathedral and other Germanesk buildings, AND ATE REAL WIENERSCHNITZEL!  It was yummmmmmmyyyy!  Got back on plane and set out for Milan.

Once in Milan, said Mass in the room (too late to find someone in a sacresty) and had a wonderful Italian meal, not believing that we had just eaten Wienerschnitzel and potatoes for lunch at a resturant in Germany.  The second day, saw the city and other sites to be displayed later.

Ciao!

When will I be ordained you ask...
Topic: Guatemala

This entry will remain at the top of my blog until June for you to check the countdown when you like.  New entries will appear below.

Click here if you would like to know how many days you have to wait to torture me with your deepest darkest secrets without me being able to tell anyone...of course this only goes for the secrets told me during Reconciliation.  All is fair game outside of the Sacrament.

Ags win!
Topic: Theology IV '06 - '07
GIG’EM AGGIES!!!  Varsity’s horns are sawed off, short!  A, WHOOP!

Aggies beat teasips 12 – 5.  Regardless of any arguments disgruntled teasips say or hold.

Today is a great day to be an Aggie!

New Catholics
Topic: Theology IV '06 - '07
Well today marks the day of seven new Catholics…I think.  :-)  What I am getting at is that I celebrated my first baptisms today at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in El Campo--my diaconate assignment.  As far as I know the sacrament was both licit and valid.  If you don’t understand these terms, they in a nutshell mean the baptism took and the children were made children of God and wiped clean of original sin.

My Last Tie
Topic: Theology IV '06 - '07

Here is a picture of the very last tie I plan to wear.  The event was a Serran gathering in Galveston one week before my ordination.  From now on, when coat and tie are necessary, I will be wearing coat and clerical collar.  As a sign (to me primarily, as well as, others) of my state in life, and because I can.

I'm a Celebrity...sort of
Topic: Theology IV '06 - '07

As is the custom at the seminary, the seminarians get together and play soccer (or fútbol as our Hispanic brothers call it) every Friday after work order.  Well, the day before the seminary was to attend a Houston Dynamo (the Houston Major League Soccer team) two team members came by the seminary to hang out with us (a PR thing).  Because of this event, my face found its way into the homes of the people of south Texas (especially the Houston area…see below).  If you can look deep into my eyes, I am thinking, “Man, I want to be able to do that.  The women would love it!  Oh wait Michael, you are fixin’ to commit your life to celibacy.  But I still want to learn how to do that.”

Henry V Scene
Topic: Theology IV '06 - '07
A wonderful scene from Henry V where Henry woes Katherine privately in his own fashion:

KING HENRY V:  Now, beshrew my father's ambition! He was thinking of civil wars when he got me; therefore was I created with a stubborn outside, with an aspect of iron that, when I come to woo ladies, I frighten them. But, in faith Kate, the elder I wax, the better I shall appear.  My comfort is that old age, that ill layer up of beauty, can do no more spoil upon my face.  Thou hast me, if thou hast me, at the worst; and thou shalt wear me, if thou wear me, better and better; and therefore, tell me most fair Katharine, will you have me? […]  Come, your answer in broken music for thy voice is music and thy English broken; therefore, queen of all, Katharine, break thy mind to me in broken English.  wilt thou have me?

KATHARINE: Dat is as it shall please de roi mon pere.

KING HENRY V:  Nay, it will please him well Kate.  It shall please him, Kate.

KATHARINE:  Den it shall also content me.

KING HENRY V:  Upon that I kiss your hand, and I call you my queen.

KATHARINE:  [She retracts her hand from Henry] Laissez, mon seigneur, laissez, laissez: ma foi, je ne veux point que vous abaissiez votre grandeur en baisant la main d'une de votre seigeurie indigne serviteur; excusez-moi, je vous supplie, mon tres-puissant seigneur.

KING HENRY V:  Then I will kiss your lips, Kate.

KATHARINE:  Les dames et demoiselles pour etre baisees devant leur noces, il n'est pas la coutume de France.

KING HENRY V:  Madam my interpreter, what says she?

ALICE:  Dat it is not be de fashion pour les ladies of France,--I cannot tell vat is baiser en Anglish.

KING HENRY V:  To kiss.

ALICE:  Your majesty entendre bettre que moi.

KING HENRY V:  It is not a fashion for the maids in France to kiss before they are married, would she say?

ALICE:  Oui, vraiment.

KING HENRY V:  O Kate, nice customs curtsy to great kings. Dear Kate, you and I cannot be confined within the weak list of a country's fashion.  We are the makers of manners, Kate; and the liberty that follows our places stops the mouth of all find-faults.  As I will do yours, for upholding the nice fashion of your country in denying me a kiss; therefore, patiently and yielding.

[Kissing her]

You have witchcraft in your lips, Kate.  There is more eloquence in a sugar touch of them than in the tongues of the French council, and they should sooner persuade Harry of England than a general petition of monarchs.  Here comes your father.

Interesting Tid-bits
Topic: Funny/Cool

Something I ran across in the Misal as I was preparing for Mass.  This is in a little write-up for the 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time:

“Since it belongs to the supernatural order, grace escapes our experience and cannot be know except by faith.  We cannot therefore rely on our feelings or our works to conclude that we are justified and saved.  However, according to the Lord’s words, ‘Thus you will know them by their fruits’—reflections on God’s blessings in our life and in the lives of the saints offers us a guarantee that grace is at work in us and spurs us on to an ever greater faith and an attitude of trustful poverty.”

Quoting (CCC, 2005):  “A pleasing illustration of this attitude is found in the reply of St. Joan of Arc to a question posed as a trap by her ecclesiastical judges:  ‘Asked if she knew that she was in God’s grace, she replied: “If I am not, may it please God to put me in it; if I am, may it please God to keep me there.”’”
